Summary: | Lettered with title "The Conjurer" with publication line "Derby. Published by T. Richardson, Friars Gate" inscribed in under title. Print depicts a magician holding a wand in his right hand and holding an elaborate golden vase in his left. He wears a large dark blue velvet hat with tassels, a blue coloured top with puffed sleeves and white frill collar, a patterned red sash with gold tassels at the end is tied around his waist and he wears skin-tight white pantaloons. He wears red shoes with red rosettes on them. Behind him on a draped sideboard, is a pack of cards, an egg in an egg cup and a smalll figurine perched on a cresent moon. At right is a large cupboard with a marble bust of a man placed on top. At the extrme left of the image, a bottle labelled 'Sulphur' is open on the floor - from a cloud of smoke, a large black devil, with red coloured wings (and a cheeky grin) climbs out of it onto a wooden chair nearby. The image in the print is framed by a decorative patterned 'frame', handcoloured yellow, in imitation of a gilt frame. |
