| Summary: | Design of this print influenced by an image present on the right-hand side of the print "Arrogance, (or nonchalance) of the tenth retorted" by Isaac Robert Cruikshank, (1789-1856) [brother of George Cruikshank], published April 1824 by John Fairburn, Broadway, Ludgate Hill, London. See BM Satires 14642. This print lettered with title "Military nonchalance_or arrogance of the 10th retorted" with publication line "Pub. by McCleary, Nassau Street". An officer from the cavalry regiment the Tenth Royal Hussars stands bows from the waist, pointing the left toe, left hand on hip and holding up a monocle with his right hand to get a better look at the two ladies standing opposite. A lady, holding up a closed fan and looking distinctly unimpressed says "Sir, this is the Lady you desired me to Trot up to you". The fasionably dressed lady, standing in profile beside her, bends from the waist, pointing a toe and holds a lit candle in a candlestick holder out in front of her in order to see the hussar in better light. In response, she says "Oh! he won't do, Trot him out". Above the head of the hussar is "the 10th don't dance".
