Summary: | Lettered with title "Tenpenny Toy" and inscribed within plate l.r. [slightly rubbed] "[Pub.] by McCleary". This print depicts the caricaturist, supporting with his right hand a wooden board over his head on which are six toy soldiers wearing the uniform of the cavalry regiment The Tenth Royal Hussars - the uniform of the regiment that the soldiers wear is caricatured - a blue jacket with an extremely narrow waist, with a profusion of yellow braiding at the front of the jacket, very high collars, shakos [hats] with a large red plume projecting from it, voluminous trousers of bright red or blue with a yellow stripe down the side and black pumps with narrow toes. Two sport black bags. In a speech bubble, the caricaturist, looking directly out from the print, remarks: "Come Ladies & Gentlemen / buy my fine Images, come see / my Gingerbread Officers who / never soil their pretty / uniforms by Dancing, or / Fighting, that they leave to the / Vulgar Hirish [Irish]". With his left hand the caricaturist holds a model of another soldier of the Tenth Royal Hussars, who is portly, small of stature and is kneeling - he is labelled 'Antinous' [a satirical reference as Antinous was youth (and deity following his death), considered to be extraordinary handsome].
