This print is lettered with title 'Wide-Awake' and publication line 'Pub.d by J. Sidebotham, 24 Lower Sackville Street, Dublin'. An eldery man sits up, startled at having been awoken suddenly by two squalling cats, their backs arched and fur bristling, who are situated just behind his chair. He is depicted full face, his mouth distorted as though captured screaming. Both of his hands are raised and he has flung back the patterned material which he had covering his face. He sits in a low-backed arm-chair at right angles to the fire, which has a carved marble chimney-piece surmounted by an oval framed gilt mirror [or picture?] above it with a hearth-rug adjacent to the fireplace on top of the carpet in the room. |
