View of the interior of a room in the Royal Hospital Kilmainham, Dublin, (which was a home for retired soilders modelled on Les Invalides in Paris). The men are depicted seated either individually or in groups reading broadsheet newspapers in a room decorated with weapons. Inscribed in manuscript hand in pencil on verso: "Royal Hospital Kilmainham". Stamped in blue ink on verso "MacDowel Cosgrave / M.D., F.R.C.P. / 14 Jan 1906" [date of acquisition by NLI].
