Summary:Philip Christopher Clarke while in Crumlin Road Prison [serving ten years for a treason felony where he was part of an I.R.A. raid on a British Army barracks in Omagh, Co.Tyrone] was elected Sinn Féin M.P. for the Fermanagh and South Tyrone constituency, becoming the youngest M.P. at that time. His Unionist opponent Lieutenant Colonel Robert Grosvenor, (1910-1979), lodged a petition to have him unseated - the case was heard in the Northern Ireland High Court in August 1955 and on 2 September the Northern Ireland High Court ruled Clarke was ineligible for election and Grosvenor was declared duly elected. Upon his brother's death on 25 February 1967, Robert George Grosvenor became the 5th Duke of Westminster. Clarke was released from Crumlin Prison on 18 December 1958 after Lord Wakehurst, (1895-1970), [then the Governor of Northern Ireland] exercised his prerogative of mercy. At top of this sheet are printed the marks of two small ink stamps with 'Sinn Féin'.
