Summary: | Vibrant Celtic Revival design colour poster featuring a male figure in the costume worn by the Fianna, standing at extreme left of sheet, blowing a trumpet, his right hand on the hilt of his sword; a group of figures silhouetted against the background can be seen at top of sheet. Printed signature within illustration 'AóM' [Austin Ó Maolaoid or Austin Molloy] at bottom right of sheet. The Dundalgan Press was established in 1861 by William Tempest Newry in Crowe Street [in the early twenty-first century, the location of 'The Dundalk Democrat' office]. Austin Ó Maolaoid or Austin V. Molloy contributed cartoons to Arthur Griffiths' 'Sinn Féin' magazine from [ca. 1909] and from 1922 his cartoons appeared in 'Dublin Opinion'; he taught illustration in the Dublin Metropolitan School of Art from 1923. |
