The amendment [.] This formulation will appear on the ballot paper: The State acknowledges the right to life of the unborn and, with due regard to the equal right to life of the mother, guarantees in its laws to respect and, as far as practicable by its' laws to vindicate and defend that right. Not so simple [.] before you decide you should know...The facts: Abortion is already a criminal offence. The judges of the Supreme Court have said that the Constitution already protects the right to life of the unborn child. Our politicians will never legalise abortion because the Irish people will not allow it. Lawyers, doctors and religious leaders are deeply divided on this amendment. Some dangers of the amendment: Every year about 500 operations take place to save the lives of pregnant women. there is a very real danger that these operations might be stopped by the Amendment. if this Amendment succeeds, the legality of many methods of Family Planning, currently in use, will be open to question. Over the past twenty years, there has been slow and hard won progress in improving relations between Catholics and Protestants. the campaign has damaged this relationship. The amendment will make reconciliation impossible. This Amendment has been widely opposed within the Northern Community. If passed this Amendment will drive an even greater wedge between Irish people North and South. Why take the risks? Young Fine Gael is totally opposed to abortion...and we believe that the Referendum is forcing an unnecessary choice upon us. We don't know enough to make a decision and in our view the crisis posed by the competing factions in this debate is an unreal crisis.
