Cardboard placard encouraging the public to vote in the general election held on Thursday 15 June 1989 for Fianna Fáil Dublin South-Central candidates Ben Briscoe, (then serving as Lord Mayor of Dublin), Alderman Mary Mooney and Senator Dr. John O'Connell. Printed at lower right of placard: "Printed by Irish Printers Ltd.". Dr. John O'Connell and Ben Briscoe were elected; Mary Mooney who had previously been elected to Dáil Éireann as a Fianna Fáil TD for the Dublin South-Central constituency in the 1987 general election lost her seat. [She served as Vice-Chairperson of the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Women's Rights from 1987 to 1989]. Dr. John O'Connell, (1927-2013), founded MIMS Ireland (in 1960) an index of medical specialties and the Irish Medical Times, (in 1967) a broadsheet for doctors. He served as a T.D., [for Labour, as an Independent and then joined Fianna Fáil in 1983], Minister for Health, (1992-1993), MEP, (1979-1981) and as a Senator (1987-1989).
