Summary: | This is the Irish language version of a placard held at NLI call number EPH F1104 [printed text translates as 'Yes for a new Ireland' from the Irish]. Cardboard placard featuring a head and shoulders image of Jack Lynch [printed in black and white at top of placard] encouraging the public to vote "Yes" on 10 May 1972 in a referendum to join the European Economic Community, now known as the European Union (EU). On the 1 January 1973, Ireland became a member of the European Economic Community. Printed at lower left of placard: "Foilsithe as Fianna Fáil [which translates from the Irish as "Published by Fianna Fáil"]. |
