Description: Hull returns to Mrs. Hutton the petitions sent to her for signing. She says that although her first impulse was to sign the petitions, she could not bring herself to do so in the end. This is because of Casement's actions in attempting to persuade Irish prisoners-of-war in Germany to take up arms with Germany against Britain. She calls it an 'unforgivable act of baseness'.
