Summary:Satirical postcard [with signature 'G.B.' printed lower right within image] printed in dark green coloured ink, featuring an illustration of members of the Irish Parliamentary Party - Joseph Devlin, John Dillon and John Redmond - marooned on a small piece of land, being engulfed by a stormy sea. John Redmond is depicted having just had his top hat blown off his head while behind him, land in the right background, has the word "Roscommon" written upon it; at left, Joseph Devlin sits on the ground, looking forlorn while John Dillon, looking at land in the left background with the words "Kilkenny", "Longford" and "Clare" written on it, raises his left hand while his countenance has a look of worried astonishment. The illustration on the postcard is a reference to the by-election losses of Irish Parliamentary Party in 1917, where their candidates lost seats to Sinn Féin candidates [10 August 1917, W.T. Cosgrave won the Kilkenny City by-election, held due to the death of the incumbent Irish Parliamentary M.P. Pat O'Brien (Cosgrave defeated Irish Parliamentary Party candidate John Magennis, who had served as major of Kilkenny on three occasions); Joseph McGuinness, then serving time in Lewes Prison, won a seat for Sinn Féin in the 9 May 1917 Longford South by-election, (held due to the death of the incumbent Irish Parliamentary Party M.P. John Phillips M.P.; he defeated IPP candidate Patrick McKenna); in the Clare by-election held on 10 July 1917, (due to the death of followed the death of the incumbent I.P.P. M.P. William Redmond), Sinn Féin candidate Éamon de Valera defeated I.P.P. member and barrister Patrick (Paddy) Lynch (who subsequently joined Sinn Féin) while in the North Roscommon by-election (held due to the death of the incumbent Irish Parliamentary M.P., James Joseph O'Kelly), Sinn Féin candidate Count George Noble Plunkett, father of Joseph Mary Plunkett (1887-1916) defeated I.P.P. candidate Thomas Devine in the by-election held on 3 February 1917).
