Summary: | Poster features at centre of sheet a reproduction of an illustration entitled 'The Dancer's Reward' by Aubrey Beardsley, (1872-1898) - the original being a black and white line block print depicting Salome, enveloped in a long black robe adorned with roses and with a clasp made of roses and extravagantly curled hair, in front of a high circular table on which lies the severed and bloody head of John the Baptist. Salome grasps some of his hair in her right hand so the head is tilted back and gazes down upon it. First printed in 1894, it was Plate XIV from 'A Portfolio of Aubrey Beardsley's drawings illustrating 'Salome' by Oscar Wilde', published by John Lane, London, 1907, line block print on Japanese vellum. |
