Summary:Poster printed in Russian cyrillic script advertising a tour in February 1988 by the Abbey Theatre [Ireland's National Theatre] of the USSR; featuring at centre of sheet the Abbey Theatre logo of Queen Maeve and a greyhound in profile, [based on an original woodcut by Elinor Mary Monsell, (1879–1954)]. The forty members of the Abbey Theatre troupe played two performances in Leningrad [now St. Petersburg] and two performances in Moscow. They performed 'The Field' by John B. Keane, directed by Ben Barnes [Niall Tobin played the role of the Bull McCabe] and 'The Great Hunger' an adaptation by Tom MacIntyre of Patrick Kavanagh's poem, directed by Patrick Mason. The USSR [Union of Soviet Socialist Republics] was established on 30 December 1922; it was dissolved on 26 December, 1991. Poster distressed at centre of sheet; copyrighted in former USSR.
