Summary:Handbill advertising performances of an adaptation of Eric Cross' 'The Tailor & Ansty' in the Belltable Arts Centre, Limerick featuring an image of Éamon Kelly and [his wife] Maura O'Sullivan performing in an adaptation of Eric Cross' [once controversial and previously banned] book published in 1942. This play was based on a collection of stories and memories from Timothy ['The Tailor'] Buckley (1860-1945), a famous story teller and his wife Anastasia ['Ansty'], (died 1947) who held court in the long winter evenings in their west Cork cottage. (They are buried in the small graveyard by the lake in the valley of Gougane Barra, West Cork). When the ban on the book was lifted in 1963, Cross's novel about their life was adapted for stage by P.J. O’Connor; the first production of this play directed by Tomás Ó Murchúin as part of the Dublin Theatre Festival on the Peacock stage featured Éamon Kelly and Brid Lynch; following her death, Éamon Kelly's wife Maura O'Sullivan played the role of Ansty in a number of productions.
