Summary: | Kenrick writes to Meynis as Secretary to the Society for the Propagation of the Faith. He discusses the state of the diocese of Philadelphia, mentioning the conversion of some Protestants, the work being done by the Redemptorists, Jesuits and Sisters of Charity, the schools and the seminary. He has plans for a cathedral but has to proceed slowly. |

Notes: | Francis Patrick Kenrick was born in Dublin and worked most of his life in the United States, where he was at this time the Catholic Archbishop of Philadelphia. Anti-Catholic riots, known as the Nativist Riots, had destroyed much church property in the summer of 1844.
