Summary: | Illustrated colour playbill [printed by Hickey & Byrne] featuring at left of sheet (indicated through rough brushwork) the silhouettes of a male figure and a female figure wearing a tutu dancing. Joan Denise Moriarty founded Ireland’s first professional ballet company the Irish Theatre Ballet in 1959 [to 1964]. It had twelve dancers who toured Ireland, north and south. When the company was disbanded due to lack of funds, Moriarty founded in 1973 the Irish Ballet company [her second professional company]; this was later re-named Irish National Ballet (1973-1989). It was a touring company with 16 dancers. |
