Summary:This production by the Lyric Theatre Players, Belfast was presented as part of the Dublin Theatre Festival, 23 September to 6 October, 1985. Poster features an image of actor Gerard McSorley in the role of Henry Joy McCracken, standing with his right arm raised taking an oath; in the background a female figure in white, wearing a bridal crown can be seen. He awaits his execution for his role in the 1798 Rebellion and prepares his last address to the people of Belfast recalling the seven ages of his life, from youthful idealism to despair - each age is represented by a separate scene and written in pastiche of the styles of Dion Boucicault, Brendan Behan, Oscar Wilde, George Bernard Shaw, John Millington Synge, Sean O’Casey and Samuel Beckett. [The play was originally produced as 'Northern Star or McCracken's Night Thoughts' by the Lyric Theatre, Belfast on 7 November 1984; however all subsequent productions have referred to the play simply as 'Northern Star'].
