Westmeath in support of Fianna Fáil candidate James Geoghegan in the Longford-Westmeath constituency by-election held on 13 June 1930. He was elected to the Dáil on this occassion and subsequently served as Minister for Justice in Éamon de Valera's first cabinet [1932–33]; he became Attorney General of Ireland in 1936 and was subsequently appointed to the Supreme Court [22 December 1936]. He retained his Dáil seat until 1937. |
