The Emergency Powers Act 1939 was enacted on 3 September 1939, after an official state of emergency was declared in Ireland on 2 September 1939 which gave the Irish government powers concering censorship, internment etc. With reference on sheet to Britain demilitarised the Chanel islands to save the civilans, but we are evidently not worth protecting".
