Republican handbill issued to seek support for those then on hunger strike in Mountjoy and Arbour Hill prison, imprisoned under the Emergency Powers Act 1939 which is referenced throughout the handbill (this was enacted on 3 September 1939, after an official state of emergency was declared in Ireland on 2 September 1939 which gave the government powers concering censorship, internment etc.). With reference on sheet to Terence McSwiney and armed "civilian Republicans" was were arrested such as Mary McSwiney, Alec Lynn and Cluad de Ceabhasa [Claude Chavasse] in Galway and Joseph M. Fowler in London.
