Barry Castle was born in Dublin in 1935. Her mother was the writer and playwright, Maura Laverty. Her father, James Laverty, was a journalist with The Irish Times. She studied for two years at the National College of Art, Dublin, and married the artist, Philip Castle, in 1963. Her paintings are exhibited in galleries around the world.
