Notes:Correspondence of various members of the French family, relating to estate affairs. Correspondents include John French (d. 1775), known as ‘Shane Dhu’ or 'Black John', Arthur French (d.1820), Arthur French (1776-1856), 1st Baron De Freyne (so cr. 1851), as well as a series of letters from Patrick Taaffe of Foxborough, regarding leases on the De Freyne estate. Also contains correspondence related to the building and patronage of schools at Aughalusta, Lisacul, Cloneyquinn, and Carrowcoghill, and this includes letters from Laurence Gillooly, Bishop of Elphin, to Arthur, 4th Baron De Freyne.
