Summary:Carr's diary relates to a voyage made from Moylough, Co. Galway to Melbourne, Australia via the United States in 1899. His records his journey across the United States from New York to Boston, Baltimore, Philadelphia, Chicago, Denver, Salt Lake City and San Francisco, from where he sailed to Australia, via Hawaii and Samoa. The volume has newspaper cuttings tipped in.


Attached with the volume were loose inclusions, which are available at MS 50,400. These include eight letters from Archbishop Carr to his sister Bina Carr, written on board the 'Ortona' (1909) and later from Melbourne (1909-16), concerning family and farming matters, Australian soldiers fighting in World War I, St. Patrick's Day celebrations in Melbourne in 1916 and his view on political developments Ireland in 1916. Also included are newscuttings, photographs and memorial booklets all relating to Carr's death and funeral.
