Etching after John Leech (1817-1864) of a view of The Claddagh, Galway which in the 19th century was a fishing village, located outside the old city walls and the location of fish markets where the locals supplied the city with seafood. woman are depicted with baskets on their heads and conversing in groups, with other women or seated with their children. Thatched cottages can be seen in the background.
