Summary:The resolution condemns 'in the most emphatic manner the barbarous punishment inflicted on Mr. J.R. Cox, M.P. by the hirelings of an infamous Coercion Government' and also extends sympathy to Mrs. Cox and Dr. M.F. Cox. On the back of the sheet is the date the resolution was passed. The accompanying letter states 'The Board has desired me to send you the enclosed resolution which was unanimously adopted at their meeting on Thursday'.

Notes:At the top of the page is an official stamp 'Poor Law Union Office, Carrick-on-Shannon'. Also included is a letter to Dr. M.F. Cox on the headed paper of the Poor Law Union Office, Carrick-on-Shannon, which accompanied the copy of the resolution.

Joseph R. Cox was in jail from June 1881 to March 1882, for Land League activities, and was imprisoned twice during the Plan of Campaign (1886-1890).
