Summary:Hand-coloured aquatint etching (by Daniel Havell from John Gendall's drawing after Augustus Pugin, printed on wove paper) of Notre Dame Cathedral, Paris [before the addition of Violett le Duc's central spire], taken from the south side of the Île Saint-Louis, looking north-west up the river Seine to the Pont de la Tournelle. The artist John Gendall was involved in the production of a number of publications issued by Rudolf Ackermann including his 1821 'Picturesque Tour of the Seine, from Paris to the Sea: with Particulars Historical and Descriptive', written by Jean-Baptiste-Balthazard Sauvan and illustrated by Augustus Pugin and Gendall.
