| Notes: | Watercolour and ink caricature by Edward Thomas Kent (1881-1916), better known as Éamonn Ceannt, depicting himself playing pipes, wearing a green hat and a traditional outfit [similar to a kilt] made of green coloured material, with a cloak draped over his shoulder, fastened with a penannular brooch - similar to the outfit he wore when photographed by photographer John Arnall [see cabinet card at NLI call number NPA POLF7]; featured here in this image on the skirt of his kilt is an image of a harp. In 1900, Ceannt and Edward Martyn founded Cumann na bPíobairí [The Piper's Club]; he won a gold medal at the 1906 Oireachtas and in 1908 travelled to Rome as official piper of the Catholic Young Men's Society to celebrate the jubilee of Pope Pius X and was invited to play before the Pope.
