Major Crooks' family, Kinsale.
Pencil drawing of Major Crooks family, Kinsale, undated, by an unknown artist. Full length portrait of a woman [presumably his wife], seated, wearing a bonnet, face to front, handing a book to her daughter who is standing behind her, while a small dog stands on his hind legs in front of a boy, who is seated at left of the drawing, who has his right arm around another small dog [this just discernable, drawn very lightly in pencil]. Written in black ink at lower left of sheet: "Major Crooks family, Kinsale" and in pencil lower right "Mr. Crooke Family". In pencil on verso can be seen a very rough sketch [persumably of the small group of people] of a woman, with a girl and boy standing behind her, with the outline of anotehr female figure at extreme left. Slater's Directory 1846 of Kinsale, records a Major Thomas Crook, Compass Hill, Kinsale as a resident [listed under (NGC) – Nobility, Gentry & Clergy]; a Captain Thomas Crooke was recorded as resident in Kinsale in Pigott's Kinsale Directory of 1824, listed under NGC.
