Notes:Portrait of Paddy Connolly [note generally Paddy Conneely], the blind professional piper, seated, playing the pipes. Title inscribed in pencil underneath image; signed 'J. Hayes Del' [Latin, 'delineavit' - 'drew it'] at left. Conneely was supported by the librarian at Queen's College, Galway, James Hardiman [Séamus Ó hArgadáin, who wrote 'Irish Minstrelsy', (1831), one of the first published collections of Irish poetry and songs], who presented Conneely with his pipes that were made in the 1820's.
