Summary: | Letters sent to Irish-born lawyer, journalist and Congressman William E. Robinson of New York, from a variety of correspondents largely relating to the social and business matters, publising and the newspaper industry. Included are letters from the engraver C. G. Gilroy (1856), Chief Justice George Shea (1859), physician and editor Joseph Evans Snodgrass (1867), publisher Patrick Donahoe (1878-80) and newspaper proprietor C. D. Brigham of the 'Oswego Commerical Times' [n.d.]. Also included are letters to Robinson from John McCormick of Cookstown, Co. Tyrone, dated 1834 (before Robinson left Ireland for America) and 1854. McCormick's letter of March 1834 refers to rioting in Cookstown, which he blames on drinking, and temperance activism in the locality. |
