John Edward Redmond (1806-1865) was a banker, magistrate and Liberal M.P. for the city of Wexford from 1859 to 1865. Inscribed in ink at top of mount "John Edward Redmond M.P. Wexford / to whom mounment erected / grand-uncle of J.E.R. [John Edward Redmond], a reference to his grand-nephew, also John Edward Redmond (1856-1918), M.P. and leader of the Irish Parliamentary Party from 1900 until his death.
