Summary:Letters to the writer and newspaper editor Edmund Downey, of Waterford, largely relating to political and literary matters. Among those writing to Downey are Éamon De Valera, Robert Brennan, Dorothy Macardle, Seán Lemass, Seán T. Ó Ceallaigh, Frank Ryan and Padraic Colum. These letters reflect Downey's political activism in Waterford, notably his involvement with Sinn Féin and later Fianna Fáil and his work as a editor of the newspaper 'The Waterford News' and the journal 'Green and Gold'. Also included is a postcard from George Bernard Shaw, written from Ayot St. Lawrence in Hertforshire.
