Summary:Montagu House, 22 Portman Square was built for Mrs. Elizabeth Montagu, (1718-1800), to the design of the neoclassicist architect James "Athenian" Stuart, (1713-1788). Construction began in 1777 and the house was completed in 1781; it became Mrs Montagu's London residence until her death in 1800. The house was destroyed by an incendiary bomb dropped on it in World War II. PD AD 3299 (8 loose leaves; 2 vols. of drawings, formerly held at formerly held at NLI MS 22,015 and NLI MS 22,016) transferred to Department of Prints & Drawings in 2005.
