| Notes: | At this time Sir Henry Ford was serving as Secretary of State under Arthur Capel, Earl of Essex, Lord Lieutenant of Ireland. Charles II had bestowed the Phoenix Park lands on his favourite mistress, the Duchess of Cleveland, but this was being resisted by Essex. The grant was later revoked due to the determined efforts of another Lord Lieutenant, the Duke of Ormond. Henry Ford was an old friend of Thomas Clifford, who had been raised to the peerage the previous year and made Lord Treasurer to Charles II. Physical description: 1 item (3 pages). more |
