Summary:Title lettered underneath image. This print depicts the Bastille, Paris and the area in front of the fortress, armory and political prison [known formally as the Bastille Saint-Antoine], as it looked prior to the French Revolution. Apart from some remnants of its' stone foundations that were relocated to the side of the Boulevard Henri IV, Paris, no vestige of the prison remains. It was located on the present Place de la Bastille, Paris and was destroyed between 14 July 1789 and 14 July 1790 during the French Revolution (the event known as the Prise de la Bastille ['Storming of the Bastile'] took place on the afternoon of 14 July 1789; 'Le quatorze juillet' [14 July] is a French public holiday).
