Summary:The Hon. Sir William Ralph Meredith, Q.C., LL.D. (1840 - 1923), eldest son of John Walsingham Cooke Meredith and a member of a well-known legal family in Ireland and Canada; first cousin of The Rt. Hon. Richard Edmund Meredith, Master of the Rolls in Ireland and Frederick Walsingham Meredith, President of the Law Society of Ireland. Leader of the Ontario Conservatives from 1878 to 1894; Chancellor of the University of Toronto and Chief Justice of Ontario from 1913 until his death. His grandmother, Magdalene (1785–1851), was the eldest daughter of John Redmond (1737–1819) J.P., of Newtown House, Co. Wexford; W.R. Meredith's son, Major John Redmond Walsingham Meredith (1878–1916) died in World War I. Head and shoulders directed and looking to left. With facsimilie of autograph printed underneath image: "W.R. Meredith".
