Bibliographic Details
Main Creator: Laynaud, A., artist.
Summary:Attributed to an A. Laynaud who drew this image and also wrote about the event on the next page, p.343. The illustration probably concerns the trial of members of the Fenians in 1867 for either the rescue of two Fenian prisoners from a police van in Manchester or related to the bombing of Clerkenwell jail, London. This image depicts a courthouse, the judges, juries, lawyers and the defendants in the dock, with guards seated on either side of them. A crowd watch from the balcony. According to the article printed on verso by A. Laynaud, individuals in Dublin, Connaught, Cork, Salfort and Drogheda, who were suspected of belonging to the Fenian organisation were followed, arrested and tried.
