A reproduction of the Paris, 1864, edition. Gallier was Irish-born and learned the building trades from his father. He came to the States in 1832 and to New Orleans in 1834. He quickly became the favorite of the American community, then led largely by Irish merchants. He retired in 1849 to a life of leisure and travel but some of the buildings he designed are now some of the most honored in New Orleans.
