Page 539-540 of issue No. 4083 of French periodical 'L'illustration journal universel' dated 4 June, 1921. Page 540 features an illustration by W.R.S. Stott of the murder of Captain Black, inspector of the Gort district, his wife, Captain Cornwallis and Lieutenant MacCreery by Sinn Féin gunmen - the only survivor of this massacre was Miss Gregory who was spared. The group were on their way back from a tennis party at the house of John C. Bagot, Ballyturin, when they reached the gates of the estate where they were shot. Underneath this is reproduction a photograph taken by the Central News agency in the grounds of the Custom House, [''Hotel de la Douane'], Dublin featuring Sinn Féin gunmen shooting at those in the Royal Irish Constabulary based inside the building. Tect on page 539 refers to "La Guerre Civile en Irlande".
