The first biography of Wheat, the man and the soldier. After Wheat's death, the unit was disbanded. David Boyd, who knew and loved Wheat, wrote in the New Orleans Daily Item of August 25, 1896, that Wheat was "one of the bravest of men, the gentlest and noblest of gentlemen, modest and refined as a woman, and the truest of friends."
