With references to the fact the Cookstown District Council was found guilty of discrimination and that "...Cookstown District Council spends your money! The extreme loyalist majority on the Council ensures that it is spent in a sectarian way, whenever they can. Cookstown District Council can be taken out of the hands of the extreme loyalists, if non-Unionist vote for ALL the non-Unionist candidates in their area". Established in 1973, Cookstown District Council also included the villages of Moneymore, The Loup and Ballyronan in County Derry. As part of Local Government Reform in Northern Ireland, from 1 April 2015, Cookstown District Council merged with Dungannon and South Tyrone Borough Council and Magherafelt District Council to form the larger Mid-Ulster District Council.
