Summary:Sheet (pasted on secondary mount, printed in black and red font) encouraging people to attend a Socialist Party meeting on Saturday 2 March [2002] at 4p.m. in Wynn's Hotel, Abbey St., Dublin to be addressed by Ivana Bacik and Clare Daly relating to the [then] forthcoming referendum on the Twenty-fifth Amendment of the Constitution (Protection of Human Life in Pregnancy) Bill, 2001 (Ireland) which included the text of a proposed Act which would regulate the termination of pregnancy and would have repealed Sections 58 and 59 of the Offences against the Person Act, 1861. However as a result of this 2002 referendum, (with 50.42% voting 'no'), no legislation on abortion followed. (This sheet references the Attorney General v. X [the X Case], when in 1992 the Attorney General sought an injunction to prevent a thirteen-year-old girl who had been the victim of rape from obtaining an abortion in England; this was granted by Justice Declan Costello in the High Court but this decision was overturned on appeal to the Supreme Court, on the grounds that the girl was suicidal and that therefore, it was permissible to intervene to save her life).
