Summary:Cardboard placard encouraging people to vote for Mairéad Farrell, then a prisoner in Armagh Prison who stood for election as a T.D. for Cork North Central in the 1981 general election - polling 2,751 votes. (Three women held in Armagh Prison took part in the 1980 hunger strike - Mairéad Nugent, Mary Doyle and Mairéad Farrell). Printed in black font at top of placard is the word "Armagh" on a green background while at bottom of placard "H-BLOCK candidate" is printed on an orange background with the black text in the centre of placard printed on white background, thus forming the colour of the Irish flag. At top of placard is a black and white image of the British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher while in the centre right of placard is a black and white image of Mairéad Farrell. Mairéad Farrell (1957-1988) was killed in Gibraltar on the 6 March 1988 by SAS [Special Air Service] soldiers along with two other Provisional IRA paramilitaries Seán Savage and Daniel McCann.
