Notes: | The blockade runner Maffitt, the "Sea Devil of the Confederacy" was not the only Civil War veteran to try his hand at novel-making. Lewis "Lew" Wallace, a general in the Union Army, wrote the enormously successful novel, Ben-Hur. Maffitt's novel is based on his service in the Mediterranean. At the time of his death, he left an unfinished novel about piracy in the West Indies. Physical description: 352 pages ; 20 cm. more |
