Summary: | Undated, charcoal sketch of Osheen, who is depicted as a bearded, middle- aged man; written on lower left of sheet 'Osheen' [an anglicised version of the name 'Oisín]. Oisín was the son of Fionn Mac Cumhaill and the goddess Sadb [or Sadhbh]; he was a member of the Fianna and regarded in legend as the greatest poet of Ireland. He is best remembered for his love for Niamh Chinn Óir ['Niamh of the Golden Hair'] with whom he spent 300 years in Tír-na-nÓg ['the Land of the Young']. |
