Decorative cartouches are engraved around the edge of card, with various items (obviously for sale by Jonathan Binns) depicted - from top left - a tea urn or samovar [a heated metal container used to heat and boil water]; a grate in front of an open fire; a silver tea pot; a candle stick inspired by the design of a Doric column; a tankard; a salt cellar; a large silver cup and a rococo-style candle stick holder. Plated Candlesticks, Tea Kitchens, Coffee potts, Cups, Ink-stands, Cruet frames, Tankards, Salts, Bitts, Stirrups, Japse. [Japanese] Tea Waiters [salvers or small trays used when serving tea], Bread Baskets, Tea Chests, Quadrille Pools [a container for ivory or mother-of-pearl gaming counters, quadrille being a fashionable card game], Steel Watch Chains, Snuffers, Stanos [small statues] &c., &c. With every article in the House Furnishing Way". Written in ink on verso: "Mr. Mahon, Dublin March 2 '85 [1785], Bought of Binns, 2 Bread leavers and 1 Bread [Rasp?]" coming to a total of 5/10.

Jonathan Binns is listed under Merchants and Traders Dublin in Watson's Almanack of 1783; his second wife Anne [neé Verney] took over the business at No. 21 Dame St. after her husband's death [see item at NLI call number Ms 8,409 (1)]. Jonathan Binns had twenty four children, many of whom were also iron-mongers - Wilson's Dublin Directory for the year 1801 lists Jonathan's widow [and second wife] Anne as an iron-monger, still based at 21 Dame St.; his son George Binns as an iron-monger based at 27, Dame St. and William Binns as an iron-monger based at 25, Stephen's Green while an Ambrose Binns is listed as an "iron-monger & anchor-smith at 94, Rogerson's-quay".
