Notes: | "Connolly's letters and diary were published originally in the Transactions of the Illinois State Historical Society for the year 1928." Includes bibliographical references and index. His voluminous letters to his future wife, a Mary Dunn of Mount Gilead, Ohio, make for very interesting reading, as was the diary of his three years' service. Angle's introduction has James Austin Connolly being born in Newark, New Jersey on March 8, 1840. Those dates make more sense than the dates given by the Library of Congress (1843-1914). Connolly's letters and diary were published originallyin the Transactionsof the Illinois State Historical Society for the year 1928.
