Notes:During World War 2 Robert Cant served as a major in the Royal Engineers of the British Army in Burma (now Myanmar), from where he and six other Europeans escaped from the Japanese in 1942 by walking over the mountains into India. The Japanese drove the British from Burma and occupied the country that year; but in 1945 Cant was in Burma again, working on repairing railway lines, as the tide of war turned against the Imperial Japanese Army.
