Summary:Papers of Col. John Wolfe of Forenaughts, Co. Kildare, concerning the social and political unrest in Co. Kildare during the period 1795 to 1814. Included are papers relating to robberies and attacks in the county, with particular reference to robberies along the Royal Canal, the activities of Kildare's United Irishmen during the 1798 Rebellion, their political organisation and the state's surveillance of United Irish members in the years that followed, local republican's involvement in the Emmet Rebellion and disaffection and dissertion among troops stationed in the county. The papers shed light on the mentality and anxieties of gentry and supporters of the British administration in Co. Kildare, their systematic reporting to Wolfe of republican organisation at local level and their use of informers who provided information about those sympathetic to the United Irish cause.
